Why wouldn’t I be able to get the gastric sleeve?

For obese patients with esophageal dysmotility (difficulty swallowing) and gastroparesis (food stays in the stomach for too long), the gastric bypass surgery is the preferred operation. Patients with severe Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), especially those with Barrett’s esophagus, also should have gastric bypass surgery. For patients with mild reflux, gastric sleeve surgery is not considered a contraindication.
